Thanks to all who have replied.

To get Mary's birth certificate is my next move I agree.

I have one for a Mary Storey born in Counden, 1841 but I am pretty sure it is the wrong one. She has a father John and a mother Jane so I wasted £7 on that one.
I am pretty sure the one I want is Dec qtr 1839 Darlington. Will hopefull reveal the information I need.

Funnily enough Mary's husband, Thomas Neasham 1842, has a mother called Elizabeth Neasham and a father called William Roberts.
No wonder they did not put their fathers on their marriage certificate!

It does look like they are all Sarah's children, unless she had a sister. I guess the only way to find out is get all their birth certificates (part from Barbara's). If it is Mary who is your direct ancestor, I would certainly want that.

I am trying to find this lady's parents. She gives her birth place as Brafferton and I believe it to be Dec qtr 1839 Darlington district. I have her marriage certificate to Thomas Neasham on 19th November 1864 in Darlington but the parents are missing for both of them.
She is on the 1861 census in Great Aycliffe living with her sister Barbara Hunt and with Thomas Neasham as a lodger. On the 1851 census she is the grandaughter of Mary Storey living with four siblings, including Barbara and a daughter of Mary named Sarah who is described as unmarried.
There is a similar picture on the 1841 census. Mary 1786 as head, Sarah 1819 unmarried daughter, Mary 1839 as grandaughter.
Is Sarah an unmarried mother of five children? Could she be the aunt?
What do others think?
