The historical phone directories on Ancestry are useful too - not much good if your surnames are Smith or Jones, but for the rarer surnames they can help you trace a family's movements through the 20th century. They have a good coverage of years, from 1880 - 1984.

Thankyou Jonesey and RutlandBell. I have ancestors in Lincoln also so thankyou for the advice.

When did the Electoral Rolls start?

Electoral Rolls

Historical Directories -many towns did their own. For instance Lincoln has Rudock's Directory, and Rutland has Matkin's Directory a bit like early yellow pages. I found where all my family lived and the adverts are fascinating. Many local libraries will have copies of their own directories.

Kelly's and the Post office are others.

This site goes up to about the 1915's

Can anyone tell me how you can find out what happened to a family after 1911 Census? How can you map their movements?

Any help appreciated.
