are you sure it isnt Tie-er boy

ie tying /binding coils of wire together as in making windings for motors?

There is this explanation on an old occupations site but it doesn't seem to fit with an electrical factory:-

Teerer/Tierer/Tier Boy - Spread a fresh surface of colour on the printer's 'pad' each time he used it to print calico.

Are you sure it's not just Tea Boy.

Does anyone know what a Tier Boy is? One of my great great uncles died at 12 years old and was a tier boy in an electrical factory in Dysart, Fife.
