Ah - ha! Adoption!!!

Could I suggest that you add 'Adoption' to your title?

There are a number of people on this site with experience of tracing birth families.

Assuming your friend was adopted in Scotland, presumably the first thing she needs to do is approach the SServices in that area.

But its probably better to wait until someone with experience comes along.

Hi! Sorry, now I have another problem. Basically; I'm looking for a birth record but I don't know the surname!!! I know; how nuts is that?!!

A friend was adopted and her 'mother' refuses to give her any information. All she knows is her first name and date of birth and the area she was adopted from. As with the Ancestry records, I was hoping to just input the little info I have to get possibilities - I knew this would be loads!

But the first name, although isn't that unusual, is a bit unusual for the time she was born so I was hoping for just a couple hundred to narrow it down by! Anyway, the Scotland site demands a surname so no good there!

Does anyone know how you'd find out about adoption when the adoptive mother is not playing ball??!!

Pay per view but great value for money.

Their birth and death certs are available to download instantly (joy!) and give lots of information.

You need Scotlandspeople for that.

Free to search, but pay to view BUT the images once paid for have more detail than the UK ones.

Hullo! Maybe I'm being dim but are there any listings for Scottish BMDs?? Ancestry just includes England and Wales - bit annoying!
