I have the marriage certificate of Robert John Christian Syers to Isobel Ballantyne in Brentford in 1940. Roberts father was Robert William Syers, mother thought to be a Florence.

However, searches have not revealed a birth registration for Robert John Christian although his daughter says it was 2nd February. From his marriage certificate he was born in 1899/1900. I found a registration for a Robert J C Syers but also a death for the same year - ugh!!! As for father Robert William, I only know (again from the marriage cert) he was a merchant and deceased by 1940. Any ideas or tips to help me out with this one.? By the way, Robert John Christian Syers lived in Twickenham at the time of his marriage, working as a machine operator in munitions.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Yes - i also thought this could have been them - however, no Robert John Christian Syers in 1911. We know he had a brother Noel Syers, the religious artist...again no birth registration for him either. I have got back to the grand daughter and she seems to think that Robert William Syers owned hotels in Germany and the name Robert Schrader Syers rings bells (nothing found anywhere about this). I seem to have hit a solid brick wall,

One World Tree on Ancestry has Florance married to Robert Schrader.

Florance apparently changed the family name during WW1 to Syers, after her divorce from her German husband.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

I am overwhelmed by everyone's kindness in helping me with this one. I've been tearing my hair out over it for the past couple of weeks. I had tried searching for Robert Schrader Syers but when the marriage certificate came up with Robert William, I was completely thrown.
Also thank you for looking on the 1911 census Maureen, as I know you have to pay for that. I am happy to look up any relatives you may be hunting in exchange, as I have a few credits left.
Thanks again
