Hi Cynthia/TheLadyInRed

I did have a look.

There are some parish records for Great Braxted on Seax Essex site which you can view free but only from around 1770. Not the early 1800s

Thanks again to you both I will keep looking

Tetley, if you're trying to go back over then assuming they were married at time of William's birth that had to have been in at least 1827 which is before time of civil registration (started in 1835). Think you'll have to go to Parish Registers for any earlier info

Maybe this will help a litte:

The girl's name Lydia \l(y)-

dia\ is pronounced LED-ee-ah. It is of Greek origin, and its meaning is "from Lydia". From Ludia. Place name: Lydia was an area of Asia known for its two rich kings, Midas and Croesus. Biblical: a Christian woman called a "seller of purple" and described as a woman of business, probably affluent.

I just checked on a baby names site and apparently it's a name in its own right but it does mean "woman from Lydia" so I am guessing that Lydia was a place at some point.
