I think the simplistic answer is that you can't

It is pretty rare to find a mother's maiden name on baptism certificates.

women weren't considered persons then ......... they only exist as "property" of their fathers or their husbands. Only widows and women who were wealthy in their own right really had any measure of self-identity as we know it.

Possibly the only way is if you can identify the marriage that led to the birth of that child. And that is not easy to do unless your guys have got unusual names, or some other identifying feature

Another possibility is if you can find them on the 1841 Census or preferably 1851 or later (when relationships are identified) with an old person who might be a maternal parent or a sibling

How can I find out the mothers maiden name for a birth in 1800?

The christening record states parents christian names and the male surname only.

Hi,
I don't have the birth certs. of Elizabeth or Charles, Mary Ann Allington has used Mary/Ann/Mary Anne/Marianne. I don't know why I never thought about getting BC. I know for sure they are my family as Charles Thomas 1849 was my G.Grandfather and they were living with Charles and Mary Ann on the Censuses.

Do you have the birth certs of Elizbeth 1844 or Charles 1849 to confirm she is Allington?

I presume you spotted the marriage of John Arnold to Mary Ann Maisey in 1827. Just mentioning that one as the marriage to Allington does not mention a middle name

I have tried to find the answer to this for so long without success but until I get to the bottom of it I can't move on.

John Arnold 1800 Whitechapel married Mary Ann Allington c1805 Whitechapel on 12.02. 1827. On the marriage cert. John is listed as a widower.

Children listed are: John 1826 Bethnal Green, Samuel Charles 1832 Shoreditch, Ann 1834 Shoreditch, William Nicholas 1837 Bishopsgate, Elizabeth Mary 1844 Bishopsgate and Charles thomas 1849 Bishopsgate.

Because John 1826 was born before the marriage of John and Mary Ann and John 1800 was a widower I thought maybe he was the product of the 1st marriage.

I am unable to locate a first marriage for John Snr. and John Jnr.'s baptism was 24.12.1826 only two months before his fathers marriage plus parents are shown as John and Mary Ann Arnold. To add to this is seems none of the John's have middle names and with a common name like this I'm finding it impossible to get anything definite.

All help and suggestions appreciated.

Thank you.
