Adoption.

Again , experiences vary so much.
I know that if a baby is born, a birth mother has decided she isnt going to keep the child, that child could go straight from hospital at a few days old to foster parents.

Baby still needs to be at least 6 weeks old before consent can be given (legal requirement)..

As far as I know there is a minimum cooling off period of 6 weeks before the mother makes up her mind, assuming it is a voluntary process. Back in the 60's she might have been under a lot of pressure to give the baby up.
Have you tried google searching for general information?

I tried "adoption 1960's" and among other things this came up:

depends when you are talking about. A child that was born was often given to a foster parent for a while, Quite often ( I think) its to give mothers thinking time.

It varies enormously though

Time scales, eg how long did a baby have to stay with mum befor being handed to the new parents
How was the whole "handover" carried out.

Hi, trying to find any one who may know any thing about Beacon Lodge, Mother and Baby home in the early 1960's.
Beacon Lodge is still in Eastern Road, East Finchley, London.

Sadly they are non forth coming with any help.
