Hanslope suggests that he worked in the Wolverton works of the London & North Western Railway, about 3 miles from Hanslope. Both Hanslope and Wolverton are now part of Milton Keynes.
Some railway carriages were known as cars (sleeping car, dining car, etc), or 'car' may have been an abbreviation for 'carriage'.

Where did he live? The reason I ask is that Tube Trains were known as Cars

(And still are - e.g. move down the car)

On the 1901 census one of my ancestors jobs is given as Apprentic Rly Car Finishr. Anyone any ideas on what Rly could be? Is it railway as his father was a railway labourer on the 1911 census.
