hi , i have a Alfred Miller on the 1871 census when he was three weeks old. he is not on the 1881 census or any other so i pressume he died.i have been looking on the deaths in find my past from 1871 until 1920 and have not come up with anything. can anyone suggest where to look now as i was hoping to get a death cert. many thanx mgt

Have you tried free bmd to see if he is on there first - easier than scrolling through pages of deaths, have you found his family on later census. Can you add a place name and the names of his parents, this will help members to help you.

Pre-1875 registration was not compulsory - even for deaths. (And no, don't ask me how they buried anyone without a death certificate!)

Did his mum remarry?

Could he have been in a hospital or anything do you think?

hi his mum didnt re marry,he could have been in hosp, but hes not turned up anywhere else. thank you all for your help and i will try the bmd.

thanx for your reply lesley, i can get on the 1911 census but its not bringing the family up and i know they were still in manchester then. i might just give up for now and try again later x mgt

You mention in your last posting that the family are from Manchester..

could this not be the death you are looking for,? Chorlton covers an area South of Manchester...

Hulme is covered by the Chorlton Registeration district, so the death entry I gave you will probably be the correct. one.
