I have some of the electoral registers for 1960,1945,

Question i am asking---beside some of these people names there is either ----------J---------L? what do these mean?( Davies, Eva M------J )

I would advise asking the Electoral Registration Officer at your local Council Offices

Usually there is an explanation about abbreviations at the beginning of the records.

From memory , ..it's to do with their qualification to vote.
eg
householder
husband's work etc.

J might be ....liable to be on a jury ?
