My paternal grandmother was born in 1918. I know that she came from London, and that both her parents died in the war; but she never spoke about her family history.

Has anyone got any tips on how I can trace her family?

Do you know her maiden name? Do you know if her parents were married?

Which war 1914 -1918..?
Did she keep her birth name and if so, did she name her father on her own marriage certificate?

As Gwyn says, first place to start is with her marriage certificate. Who did she marry and when/where? Her maiden name should also be on your parent's birth cert.

Her maiden name was Clarke; but I'm not sure whether her parents were married.

I shall look at her marriage certificate!

Thanks for all your help
