Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone knows where I can obtain records for the above? I have been searching for a family line for many years now and finally think I have found them. Have found a death for a William Whyteman in Neilston/Barrhead in 1837, although different spelling of surname I am sure this is the correct man. Was beginning to think he didn't exist! I was wondering if there was anyway that I could find out where he was buried?

Many thanks

Thanks Joan. Scotlands people is where I managed to find the death record in the OPR's. I just wondered if there was anywhere I could find out if he was buried in the area. He has been quite elusive and his family are scattered all over that area. I have also been trying to find a marriage record for him and his wife Catherine McDonald, but no luck!

Thanks for the advice!

Kind regards

Hi Lynne,

You could try scotlands family tree site, lots of people on there have copies of the monumental inscriptions pre 1855 for lot of areas in scotland.
Perhaps they would look up to see if your ancestor was buried in a certain cemetery for you.

They are extremely helpful on there, and its a great site.
If you have any ancestors from Fife, I have the Fife death Index pre 1855 should you need a look up.

You could try the Renfrewshire Family History Society at www.renfrewshirefhs.co.uk

They have available (for £12 + P&P) a CD with the burial index for Renfrewshire.
