Oh, Mick in the Sticks - you make it sound so easy!

One way of stopping this problem is to block cookies coming from a third party site. Third party cookies do not come from the web page that you are viewing but through a window in the page, (usually an advert), that leads to a site that the parent page does not control or the contents or cookies being fed from that site.

If you should wish to block thrid party cookies in IE8 choose Tools>Intenet Options>Privacy Tab>Advanced Button>Check Overide automatic cookie handling>
Set First-Party Cookies to Accept. Set Third-Party Cookies to Block and then click on the OK button.

Still checking this out and i've come across the following warning from McAfee.........

.........When we tested this site (1911census.org.uk ) we found links to freecen.org.uk, which we found to be a distributor of downloads some people consider adware, spyware or other potentially unwanted programs...........

Having a quick look into freecen, I did bring up a pop up message warning of viruses and not allowing shut down.......inviting a click to fix.....

The following allows deletion.......

Ctrl-Alt-Delete to bring up task manager and delete message.

I would still recommend running a scan with Malwarebytes.

Thanks Frank. Oh dear, no I'm not running McAfee - it must've been a spoof. When I clicked on "fix" another page came up offering me a discount on McAfee. Also, I haven't been onto the 1911census website at all, which puzzles me.

I've just been onto 1911census.org.uk and Findmypast and had no adverse reaction from Norton Symantec re dangerous website and Google doesn't really bring anything up about it.

Are you running McAfee since if you are not then there is no reason for you to get this warning.
That would make it Spyware or Malware, just a program up to no good trying to get into your computer..

Are you sure that you are on

www.1911census.org.uk and not
www.I9II census.org.uk or similar.......just make sure!

This is a bonus available on IE8 in that the URL at the top of the screen shows highlighted, the site you are on..........

There are a lot of spoof warnings which require you to click on the warning to scan or download a "fix" so I would be wary of doing so in view of what you may allow into your computer.

If you are running McAfee then you should go into YOUR OWN McAfee PROGRAM and do a scan and even try scanning with the following, both of which are free programs.

Spybot, search and destroy and Malwarebytes............

Thanks for that Beejay, but it's still a bit of a chin stroker for me. Surely Microsoft Security Essentials which I have installed will protect against anything dodgy.

Just had a look and apparently McAfee have found it has links to freecen.org.uk which seems to be a distributor of downloads some people consider adware, spyware or other potentially unwanted programme

A message has just come up on my computer from McAfee saying that 1911census.org.uk is a dangerous website and puts my computer and personal identity at risk. What's that about please?
