Can't find Henry's birth on BVRI but there are 8 children of Henry & Rebecca in Hertford between 1772-1784. Do you have them? Want me to list them?

Oh, I see. The two marriage records are both submitted records - and both show a different date - thereby implying some posible carelessness and hence unreliability.

I can't see your Henry born 1754, only this one:

HENRY CARTER Pedigree
Male
Event(s):
Birth:
Christening: 09 NOV 1740 Aldenham, Hertford, England
Parents:
Father: THOMAS CARTER Family
Mother: SUSANNA

The problem with searching pre-1837 is that unless the people appear on the 1841 or later census with family, you really have no way of knowing for sure if you have found the right parents. If you visit local records offices or order the microfiches from LDS you might a bit more information, but it is a long slog.

You might find some local history/genealogy societies have extra information. My own village library has records of burials in a local churchyard, but you can only view it at the library, it is not online.

It's a question of how important it is to you to get it right as to how much effort you are able and willing to put in - and even then, there comes a point when you have to say "Henry's parents MIGHT be John and Mary" but this cannot be proven.

The county is Hertford Hertfordshire where they got married 1771 St Andrews. Cannot find where Henry came from born 1750. there is a Henry Carter born 1754 Wheathampton Hertfordshire dont know if this is one same one.

Hello Lynn

You are looking at the IGI record rather than at a certificate. Is the record an "Extracted" record or a "Submitted" one - it will tell you that at the bottom left. If it's a submitted record then it may not be reliable as it is only what another researcher has put there. It is unusual for an extracted record to name the mother of either party, so I suspect it is a submitted one. If you tell us what county you are looking in, perhaps someone can advise further.

Henry Carter born 1750 married rebekah baker in 1771. the only name that comes up for his father is William Carter and his mother Mary Carter but not sure they are his parents.
Thanks
