In May 1882 my gt grandmother wed a labourer named Henry Jackson in South Dublin. He died aged 28 in Oct 1886 and occupation was given as Labourer/army reserve man.
Is it possible to trace any Irish military records??

At that time Ireland was part of the UK and the only army records would be British ones. The National Archives have some records but without knowing which regiment he was in I think it would be difficult to trace.

The reason he was on the army reserve was because he had been a serving soldier but as his age on marriage was 22 it appears that he hadn't done his 12 years/21 years service in the army which he would have enlisted for. He could have been dischraged because he had been wounded
But unless you know the name of his regiment,place of enlistment and approx date of birth you have very little chance of finding out about him

If he left the Army 1883 onwards, you don't need to know his regiment to find any surviving discharge papers for him, but with a common name, you would need to know at least his birthplace to be able to identify him, unless his marriage details are given on his Army papers. If he left before 1883, then you would need to know whether he was in the cavalry or infantry etc, to search for his papers.

Would i have to go to archives to search? His family lived in South Dublin so i imagine he was born there.

The records aren't online yet, so yes, you would need to go to Kew or get someone to go for you.
