BUT

you will still not be able to see the details of the certificates.

What you see is the birth/marriage/death registration, shown as quarters of the year, and registration district.

THEN you have to buy the actual certificate in order to see the details.

The actual information is simply not available on the web for English and Welsh bmds.

ps ............ freebmd currently goes up to about 1835/40, although volunteers are working hard to get the information uploaded up until 1983, when the records were first entered on the computer.

The later records are available on ancestry.co.uk, which is a subscription site.

To be honest ..................... the Gold membership on here is rather useless!

Use the bmd site posted by Jan. It only goes up to the mid 1940s (somebody will tell me if I am wrong) but otherwise it is good, easy to search and free.

Are you a Gold member on this site?

If you search BMD on this site you get an open book image

HI there! Intrigued by this - what is the open book icon? Have searched a lot on freebmd but have never seen this!
Maybe you are searching on Genes site? Don't do this, go here for BMD's 1837-1930's:

Hi Mary

Thanks

It's when i am searching the BMD records, i get a list of all possibilites and click on the open book icon to view, this is where i get a blank page, does this mean i need to pay for those as i have already paid for unlimited credits.

Hi Happycrafter

Welcome and good luck with your research.

What records are you trying to view? You can see the actual census images but for births, deaths and marriages you will only be able to see the indexes, not actual certificates. These have to be purchased.
