Assuming you have the names of the children and their places of birth, start to search for *their* marriages or deaths. As you know, a DC might give a relative as the informant.

Then, if you are confident they married, see if you can find children, then their marriages and their children, born up to about 1980-1984.

Bear in mind that *most* people stay relatively close to where they were brought up.

After that, it’s down to electoral rolls. Both Jean and Whirley have look up threads using their subscription to 192.com which is free to search. It is also worth trying to cross reference on thephonebook.bt.com.

FMP also has a living relative search facility, at a cost of course.

If you do discover a ‘possible’, you could write a letter giving a brief outline to whom you hope they are related, and hope for a positive outcome.

When I’ve done this (twice) I’ve said something along the lines that the records quoted are publicly available, and that they may wish to pass the letter to a trusted relative (depending on their guesstimated age). I’ve also said that if they choose not to reply, I won’t bother them again. It helps to enclose a SAE, and put your own address on the back of the envelope to them, in case their address is out of date.

Hope you can find someone!

Hi Ann,

I have all the census info for her right up to 1911, but I am looking to find a decendent. This is my fathers paternal side of the family and the only side I have not made contact with any decendents.

She was born Mary Ellen Roberts. married a Peter Carney and had a son with him who was named John.

Peter died and Mary Ellen married a Robert Croston in 1905 and had further children.

Where do I go when I am unable to find anyone on GR or Ancestry who is researching the same name (person) as myself?
