Hi Patricia

Yes, I discovered the other day that where I was looking for Newington I actually needed Nonnington. My mistake. It also makes my OH mad when he sees Kent, Middlesex. He even saw one as Isle of Wight, Surrey the other day. I tend to live with it but it can be misleading. I think I will upgrade as it seems there is enough to justify the expense.

Thanks for all your help

Hi Beverley

Newington is actually in Surrey, not Kent although the two districts are not very far away from each other. (I am a from S.E.London and know it well).

I have traced ancestors from as far out as East Wickham, Kent on the Ancestry Parish Records, whicch reallly is on the borders of London.

Beware however,,,,,,, the American Transcribers at Ancestry tend to put many places in South London as being in Middlesex, which is so wrong because the River Thames has been there for ever seperating the Counties - they just do not know London. It makes me so mad!

Try this site

http://www.kent-opc.org/Parishes/Nonington.html

It has the following baptism record
1787 (T) (28) Oct Thomas Pay son John (Ann)

Unfortunately no Marriage or Banns to help.

My OH is a direct descendant of Henrietta Pay a younger sister of the above Thomas.

As far as I can see, the closest to modern Kent is Lewisham.

Other than that, they are extracted records, sometimes from Pallots, and usually quite early. Not a lot of detail is shown.

You may wish to consider

cityark.medway.gov.uk
freereg.org.uk

Both free sites.

Thanks for the replies.

Thanks Jonsey but I don't think that information helps and is probably not the correct person (it was the only Thomas Pay I found in Kent so assumed - wrongly). The details Gwyn found was the correct one as there was a daughter Rebecca so was the baptism details only available on Premium? I was wondering whether to upgrade now or later as I haven't seen Kent Parish Records until the past few days (maybe I missed them). They would probably be useful as all my lot are from Kent (with a couple of exceptions). Can anyone also tell me if the London Births, Baptisms and Marriage ventures into Kent?

Thanks for all your help

If the London Births, Baptisms and Marriages are of use to your research, then it is money well spent, otherwise don't bother.

I downgraded back to Essentials last year as I found nothing I couldn't get elsewhere on Premium, so it had been a waste of money for me.

If I'm reading the correct 1841 entry, Thomas has a daughter Rebecca.

A Rebecca PAY is showing on IGI as baptised in Nonington with parents Thomas and Mary.

For me the upgrade to Premium was worth the extra money.

Have saved a fortune just by access to London Births, Baptisms and Marriages.

Their membership comparison, when viewed through your own account, does not really give an idea of what exactly is available.

I currently have about 10 months of a standard membership with Ancestry and am considering upgrading to Premium membership but could anyone tell me what else I get for the money and is it worth it? For example, I am searching for the wife of Thomas Pay born 1786 in Nonington, Kent (possibly Newington, Kent). Thomas appears on the 1841 census with children but not with his wife. If I check the Kent Parish Records for him it says there is Thomas Pay and Ann Howland. I don't know if this is the right person but what else would I find out if I had premium membership?

Thanks for you help in advance
