Thanks to you all.

It really is a puzzle and I might well take a' walk' through prior entries to see if at some point the incumbant managed to write BRW out in full....Trust me to get one who was saving on ink and/or his arthritic writing hand :-)

Thanks Lynda for the geography. I really must try and visit some of 'my' churches next time I make it up to London but I usually run out of time....The LMA is toooo interesting!

Thank you all again
Chrs

I just googled Pancras BWR and it comes up with Bow Road Does that mean anything?

This vicar seems quite keen on initials most of his certs seem to have them on them. By the look of the writing he seems quite old or not very literate.

On the next page there is a cert that also says BWR. Do you think it means born within ? I can't think what the R would stand for.

Thanks SatNav

Apologies for delay in replying... Suddenly remembered I had to buy a 50th birthday present!

I do think it is a W rather than a N as it is the same shape as the W in both Wymer surnames (for bride and father) and the N in Nov (for November) is different.

Thanks again though
Chris

BNR not BWR
By New Road?

I have a marriage in 1844 at St Pancras Church Middlesex. (James John Clayton to Harriet Wymer if anyone wants to have a look on Ancestry)

The groom gives his address as Cumberland Row B W R

From the NA Street Index for 1841 the description is
Cumberland Row (Battle Bridge) part of New Road HO 107/682
and in 1851
Cumberland Row, nearby streets New Road, Pentonville Road HO 107/1495

Please does anyone have any ideas what BWR stands for?

Google hasn't helped and I have racked my brains as to what it could mean for that area but nothing comes to mind.

Many thanks

Chris
