scotlandspeople is the best site for scottish ancestors. It is a pay to view site but you can download images of birth, marriage and death certs and pages from parish records.
Ancestry has census transcriptions but no images but if you have a subscription to Ancestry you can save credits on scotlandspeople by finding the Ancestry entry and then looking at the image on scotlandspeople.
Also, familysearch has lots of scottish parish records and also bmds from 1855 (when civil reg started in Scotland) to about 1875, so again, you can save money by finding entries there and then downloading the image from scotlandspeople.

I would like to know the best place to find details of my Scottish relatives. There are so many sites I am finding it difficult to know which one might be the most helpful. If anyone can help I would be very grateful. Thanks Sheila
