Does anyone know the age at which boys and men could sign up in the 1800s. I know there was meant to be a minimum but was there a maximum.
I have asked the archives at the Royal Marine Museum but they say it could take up to 3 months for them to reply.
Thanks Anne

Thank you for you assistance

My Great grandfather Joined the Royal Marines when he was 21 but deceased his age to 19. This seems odd to me as why would he want to draw a boy's pay when he could draw a man's? He Joined the Plymouth division in 1871

Thank You Shirley

Unfortunately the Royal Marines are completely different. They were inaugurated by Henry V111 as a sea going fighting force and to protect the Dockyards.
