Kendal office was good, I got to see the original parish registers. You will need a pencil to make your notes, and a pair of thin gloves might help too.

You will need to take suitable identification in order to be issued with a Reader's Ticket. It looks like they are closed for a week over the Easter period.

I don't know about Kendal but it doesn't usually cost anything to view microfilms at county record offices, but you usually have to book a machine in advance.
