Thank you for your tips. I hadn't thought any further than their childhood. I will look for marriages and see where that gets me.
Thank you

Do you know when they were born, if the names are fairly unusual you may find marriages and then children or even their deaths - you do not saywhat year you are talking about.. It may be necessary to buy some of the certificates, witnesses names on marriage certs are often useful..

I have the names and birth year but no other GR members have them.
will check out orphanages.

Yes, maybe the others were, but I have a recolection from one of the boys' cousins, that they were put into "cottage homes". Have googled them, but can't find one in Stafford. The family had lived in Wolverhampton which is where the boys were born, so perhaps their mother was in Stafford, but the boys in Wolverhampton Workhouse? As there are no records held for the Wolverhampton Workhouse, I can't check it.

Thank you both for your help.

Without modern- day benefits to help maintain the family, it would be necessary for a man to keep working to be able to support his family.
Workhouses were sometimes used as ;hospitals', so perhaps family members could look after some of the children if their mother was unwell.

Dee, it kind of depends what you are after. If you google "orphanages Sheffield" there is quite a lot of info out there.
If you want to track down what happened to your father's cousins you will need names and place/year of birth (roughly) for starters.
You could try looking to see if other people have them in their trees.

I have just found out that 2 of my father's cousins were put into care "cottage homes, Stafford" when there mother was admitted to the Stafford Workhouse (not sure where their father was).

How can I find out more about cottage homes and where I might find any records. There were 5 children in all, so I was wondering what happened to the other 3?

Anyone got any advice for me please?
Dee
