Hi Blue, It's worth a free phone call. As you will see from my experience it certainly worked.

Best of luck

Hi
I wonder if Ancestry will do a deal the other way.
I have sent off for the tesco deal which will give me 6 months essentials.
Wouldn't it be great if i could then upgrade to Premium at a lower cost!

I shall ring them when it's set up and see if it's possible

Barbara Report 25 Mar 2010 16:21

Just found out 6 months essentials membership is £65.70. I rang them and they will now knock £65.70 off my worldwide membership which I think is a very good deal.

Barbara Report 25 Mar 2010 16:04

Just had reply from Ancestry and when my sub. is up for renewal they will knock £41.70 off my worldwide sub. which is the equivalent of 6 months essentials membership. Does anyone know if this is right because I can't find a list of the subscription charges.

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 24 Mar 2010 13:12

Thats why I was careful to say they will do a deal.

I think someone with Premium recently may have got it exetended as such, even though the FTM offer is only for Essentials.

Barbara

Ancestry won't refund, they will simply put your renewal date back by the 6 months.

Other members have confirmed that Ancestry will do a deal should you already have a subscription, so you shouldn't loose out.

Barbara

Barbara Report 24 Mar 2010 09:49

Thanks everybody for your input it certainly sounds worth having. I have some Tesco vouchers so probably will use those.

I am already a member of Ancestry with worldwide membership so have just mailed them to see if I can have a reduction of my sub. when it expires at the beginning of May but the offer still seems like a good deal with the essentials membership and I won't renew my worldwide if I can't get a deal with them.

I have asked before, but didn't get many replies, as perhaps it was new.

What are the reporting facilities like on FTM 2010? What tree formats are available for printing out on A4? Can somebody advise me please.

I had the FTM 2010 bought me for Christmas and I absolutely love it. You can do so much with it.

It came with the 6 months free membership to ancestry, but I was already a member. However, my membership was due for renewal which I was going to renew so I telephoned them and they have added the 6 months to my existing membership, putting back my renewal date so that I didn't loose out.

I used to have FTM 4 many years ago but as I upgraded my computer, I couldn't transfer it (not computer lit to download upgrades) so I didn't use it and went back to paper files. FTM 2010 is so much improved, much more user friendly and has various ways of printing off reports and charts. It enables you to save to file any ancestry copies you need eg. census forms. Lovely. I wouldn't be without it now.

I would buy it, seems like a good offer to me.
Happy researching!

I mentioned this on another thread Barbara but I thought it was worth another mention here.
If you have £15 worth of Tesco vouchers you can get the 2010 FTM Platinum with 6 months essential membership. In other words, the same as the Ancestry offer for £20.99 LESS. You have to order it online and they send you a voucher which you have to send off to an address they provide.

InspectorGreenPen

InspectorGreenPen Report 23 Mar 2010 17:48

The basic FTM 2010 software is just under £20 so you are getting a good deal with 6 months Essentials for £15. The 'Platinum' refers to the Ancestry sub on offer, not the actual FTM software, which is exactly the same no matter which package you choose.

I upgraded from FTM 2006 at Christmas and would fully endorse the product.

I got this a Christmas present. I'm still learning how to use it, but I think it's great. It enables you to store and manipulate so much more information, and the free ancestry subscription ha enabled me to find additional info and ancestors previously didn't know I had.

I down loaded my Genes tree as a Gedcom. I have now gone back to the paper copies of all my source documents to extract as much detail as I can for my FTM tree. It's taking time, but the results are worth it in my opinion. It has given me a much fuller and richer picture. I would'nt want to go back to not having it.

The official guide to FTM is a great reference guide, really useful, as are the 'Getting Started Guide' and the 'Little Book of Answers.

I think I will definitly have to buy the Ancestry subscription when my freebie expires.

Have just had mail from Ancestry offering FTM 2010 Platinum edition for £35.99 instead of £59.00 plus 6 months Essentials membership. I was thinking of taking up this offer and wondered if anyone else has this edition and if so what's it like.
