	Could someone please tell me how I can find out why someone was in prison, what records do I need to look at. He was single living with parents in 1901 and in prison in Derby in 1911. Chris

	Local newspaers (if you can get to the local records office/library of the area he was living in) are useful maggie

Member Since: April 2005 Posts: 1,817 Send Message	In the 1871 census I found an ancestor of my husband was in prison in Manchester. I googled the main Manchester Library and requested via email for a look up. The archivist was brilliant and sent me a copy of her records. So possibly Derby Library or Derbyshire Records Office.
