Would be anyone be willing enough to tell me how to use the index. I believe once you bring a page up you should then be able to see all children to a marriage etc but I have forgotten how. Please. Thanks.

Once you find one of the children if you click on the batch number at the foot of the page it will bring up another search box.
Put in the names of the parents (including the surname of the father) and it should bring up all the baptised children of that couple.
Check the details of each one because sometimes there is more than one set of parents with the same names.

Marilyn - It's the International GENEALOGICAL Index

It's one of the options under search records - advanced search at:
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

To find kids, enter parents' names and region and maybe county/batch #.

Putting in a batch # restricts the search to one particular batch which usually means one parish register covering one time block. Having a batch # disables many of the rather silly normal restrictions on search screen content - e.g., the normal restriction is that the father must be named on baptisms of illegitimate kids. The drawback is that it sort of assumes the parents don't move to another parish, or if they're living in a busy London parish, that they have all their kids in the 2 years a register will cover.

There's a partial list of batch #s at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm
