I know this will sound really daft but I haven't got a clue about computers.
I have a relative who wants to know if I use a software programme for my research and if it accepts Gedcom files?
She is going to send me a copy of her original tree, she has Family Tree Maker.
I don't have a clue whether I have a software programme or not, how do I find out?

Please be gentle with me. Lol.

Unless you have downloaded a free programme then you haven't got one! ;-))

You can buy one quite cheaply OR you could upload your relatives Gedcom into your tree here......that's if your quite sure that it's correct and you want to include all of their info into your tree?!!!

Mary, thank you very much.
I know she has correct info as she's my mum's cousin.
How can I download a free programme?

Thank you so much for your help.

If she is sending you a gedcom from her Family Tree Program then you need the Family Tree Maker on you PC in order to inport it. I tried some time ago to send my sister in canada a file from my FTM and she couldnt read it ,it was all gobbly gook on her PC cos she didnt have the program to decipher it
