Is it possible to get a list of people born on a certain day in the UK when all you are sure of is the surname and exact date i.e. no idea of the county and not sure of the christian name? If so can anyone please point me in the right direction.

Births are registered in quarters so you could only get the quarter , on Ancestry for instance if you put in a surname only and a year every birth for that year with that surname will come up , if you know the date you could narrow down

Quarters: JFM, AMJ, JAS, OND

You can do similar on FreeBMD but the births only go up to about the 1930's

Hi Rutland Belle
Thanks for replying .....I just wondered if there was some quick way of checking the births on a precise day as it may not have been registered in the correct quarter. I have the exact date of birth from an old birthday book but unfortunately does not give actual name! It was 16 Sep 1842 and just says gt grandfather! (my grandfathers gt grandfather)
Thanks for your help

you could try on IGI for a baptism but remember it wasn't compulsary to register births untill 1875

Thanks Rutland Belle

I think it possible that the birth may never have been registered. I have been looking for this man about 5 years now and all I know is his actual date of birth!!!

If you have the marriage of your grandfather, you can get your gt grandfather's name from it.
Then look for your gt grandfather on the census'. Trace it back and find his parents etc etc. Then maybe you can find a birth record or if not because it wasn't registered, what area were they living in at time....then look for the baptism.

Long haul. but not impossible. Plenty of people on these boards to help if you give out names of grandfather etc.
Good luck
Dee
