Michigan BMDs 1867 thru 1902/1925/1897 along with some US censuses are at:
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=allCollections;r=0

Vital stats are usually under the states Dept of Health.
Try using as a gateway: http://www.cyndislist.com/

can't help with your question, though

Would be interested to hear if anyone has used the above website to find ancestors in the United States?

I was really excited a couple of weeks ago when, with a lot of help from people here, I discovered a branch of my family had emigrated to Michigan, US.

Using my free trial on Ancestry I've got a bit further but have found that a lot of states don't seem to have their BMD on there. I've found some marriages and deaths on various US family history sites, but I know there are more out there and I can't find them!

When I google 'vital records' for a particular state I keep getting links to Archives.com and other similar sites.

I would be very grateful for any advice.

Thank you, Jane

PS a big thank you again to everyone who helped me locate the Culmer family in the US
