National Service Northumberland Fusiliers

I understand from other relatives that my father did his National Service with the Northumberland Fusiliers between 1948 - 9 and was posted to Gibraltar.

I am looking for tips/ websites on how to research both the regiment around this time, further details of his posting, and information about general postings to Gibraltar around this period.

I hope someone can help and point me in the right direction.

If you do not have his Service records, these can be obtained from the Veterans Agency, They are only available to NOK
Here is the link

http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/army.html

You can download the application form from the site, but they do take months to get them.

The link explains all.

Thanks Jonesy and George of W for this info -

Gotta start somewhere - though a tad expensive and the "request for details" needs a copy of my fathers death certificate, which I do not have - so will have to get a copy of that first.

You might also try The Fusilier Museum of Northumberland, The Abbott Tower, Alnwick NE66 1NG, telephone 01665 602152 - who might be able to give you tips. That might even be the address of the above websitee, but I don't know!
