Pauline

Like you I have to rely mainly on the internet for my research. I only have one week a year I can get to Record Offices to do personal research and that is a very precious time for me, regimentaly planned and executed but never long enough :-)

I presume you 'Google'....Only recently I googled a village and through their website made contact with the village historian who had transcribed the parish registers back to the year dot. A lovely man who traced a family back for me when I only asked for a confirmation of one baptism detail found on Family Search. As he said...He does it because he loves the 'chase' and then knowing the pleasure it gives to others.

Family History Societies?....Membership often gives additional benefits. Access to transcribed records made by other members or members willing to do limited research.
If you don't want to join a particular FHS then some do offer a research facility for a fee...Where I have used the service I have always found the fee affordable.

Just a couple of ideas

Good luck
Chris

I'm not having too much luck with Hertfordshire records, so I'd like to ask for advice about further subscriptions I might find useful.

I already subscribe to (of course) Genes Reunited, Ancestry.com, Find my Past (1911 census only). The Genealogist seems to offer a lot of databases, but I already have access to census and BMDs. I have the NBI 3rd edition, plus a number of CDs and Fiche records. I would like access to old Electoral Rolls, and also more Parish Registers, not just Hertfordshire.

In your opinion, are there any other sites that would offer additional information. As I am disabled, it's not a question of going to Record offices, and the nearest LDS centre is not in Swindon, as I had hoped, but appears to be at Trowbridge.

I have had such a lot of help from other Members, and there is always someone who is kind enough to offer advice. I dare hope that this will be the case with my latest enquiry.

Thank you

highly likely that Hertfordshire has a Family History Society - google and you will find their website. They usually carry parish records in both book form and CD form. I bought them in book form from my local FHS
