Okay thanks anyway, I will have a look at the newspapers next time I can get to the library.

Thought I had discovered something interesting, never mind lol.

Thanks to everyone for your ideas, I am looking for a Samuel Stirrup who died 2 January 1924 by heart failure and something to do with natural causes. Not sure why there was an inquest, died in 84 Albert Street, Bradford, Manchester aged 71.

I will have a look when I get chance, but if anyone with access could do so please in the meantime, I would be very grateful.

Thanks for your help

Marilyn

You're welcome.

I can use my local library card to look at newspapers online; I think that it can be done with all libraries. Try the library / newspaper option whilst waiting for June :-)

Jonesy's thread on searching old newspapers gives you hints. I think the thread has been nudged up recently.

You may be able to go online in any manchester library and look at some manchester papers online

Alternatively if you really do not want to wait until you have a lancs library ticket put the details on here - someone may do a lookup for you. I think there are quite a lot of people now who have the access from home.

note - the newspapers for Manchester online I think are related to 19th century

If you join Lancashire library online, they give access to a lot of old newspapers online. You may be lucky and find something depending on the year and newspapers.

Annie, They are re opening in June for the time being in another building, so will have to go there till 2013, but not sure if everything will be there.

Joy, Manchester Library is the local record office for Manchester, so will ask them when I get chance.

Thanks for replying

Ask at the relevant records office just in case copies of the inquest reports have survived. I am very fortunate to have copies of two, and they make fascinating reading.

Thank you Annie, I will have a look at the newspapers next time I go to Manchester Library, unfortunately they are closed until June, when they will re-open in another building, the library itself is not open again until 2013 after refurbishing it. Dont think I can cope with the withdrawal symptoms lol.

I have just received a death certificate for one of my ancestors and under cause of death it has that there was an inquest.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this inquest, either online or by other means, I have never had one of these before.

Thanks

Marilyn
