Can anyone more experienced offer a suggestion as to why when looking up Baps etc in parish records I am finding children born to a Joseph Collar, and a Joseph Collar and wife Mary. The years between each baptism and also burials are so close they are at one point every 12 months. I am wondering if Im looking at the children of two different Josephs. even the childrens names are the same, Sarah, Mary, Elizabeth for instance they keep repeating, I do realise that sometimes parents would use the same names as they had given children that have died. but its the use or not of mothers name I dont understand. It looks as if all the entries are by the same rector as well. These entries go on over about 10 years, Im finding it very confusing. regards Chrys.

Hi, I am in the middle of writing everything down, I have only found one entry where fathers occupation is given. The burials follow the same pattern, either both parents or father only, but they do appear to be the same as the baptisms if you see what I mean. It doesnt help when everyone seems to be useing the same names, they go on for years, but at least the later josephs all have wives and I have thier marriages so that helps. Of course then I have got to get round the fact that these earlier ones dont seem to have been born or married in this parish( Josephs that is). While I know It cant be helped it drives me mad I dont think I have one Parish I have been able to go from A-B in, they either cant be read or years have vanished!. Oh well I guess I will just have to carry on trying to work it out, thanks for your suggestions, regards Chrys.

Hi Chris, many thanks, Oh if it was that simple, I have a Joseph having children with Hannah, she dies, and he remarries Mary, but Joseph on his own is still given on other baps and burials. All entries are really close some are even on the same page. Then of course there are the odd wives of Josephs who keep popping up, in burials, no names just wives or widows. I think we should think our selves quite lucky as females now a days, they dont seem to have been worth a mention other then wives or mothers. regards Chrys.
