can anyone please tell me how i go about finding out about my relatives service record. I've just been told he "went in the trenches when he was 16" But that seems to be all anyone knows?
John William Parrish born 30th sept 1898 in Aston Birmingham

I presume he would hav lied about his age only being 16, was 16 in 1914, and i know he came home cos he was my great grandfather!
Anyinfo greatly received!

Not many WW1 army service records have survived because they were burnt in a fire in WW2 when the place they were stored in was hit by the bombing.
If you have Ancestry you could look to see if his medal card survived or any of his record

I've had a quick look on Ancestry at the WW1 Service records (not medals), and no one of that names jumps off the page.

No idea how you'd work out which (if any) was yours. My lot tended to join the RFA, because there was a major army base close to their home!
