I've looked at loads of Army service records from all periods and I would say it's not at all unusual.

I just found his birth and he was 16 and 9 months when he enrolled - not sure what age enrolment was in ww1 but may that was a factor?

Because of what usually Jonesey - age? Getting away from things?

Half way through his career he has obviously come clean and they have written alias........... over all the docs.

I have a relative who's miliary record shows a different name to what he was born with, then during the service there is a written statement to say that he is permitted to change his name to.....back to his original name.

Up to then all the documents had alias with his real name written at the top...

Has anyone seen this before and why would it be so?

Thanks
