This does sound promising. I will have a route around in my mums brain. Maybe she can remember a bit more for me. I don't like to put a person on my tree until I have a good idea of their date of birth. William does look a similar age in the photo.

I already have the info on the son. I would love to go out there to see the grave, but it is too far away. He died of starvation. We have a postcard from him during his captivity.
He was the only male in the family and had 6 sisters.
Thank you for your help. I have been doing the family tree for about 3 years now and my mum has only just told me the extra info. It's the little stories that we need to write down while people are still alive.

I don't suppose anyone can find out any info on possible births for William Hewson. My gr grandmother was born in 1884 and William does look similar age in the photo, or maybe a little younger. I assume they came from the same area.
I have contacted a couple of possibles on here but am still waiting for a reply.

Hi Elisabeth,

Yes you are correct, I think. I have been looking through some old photos with my mum and it has writing on the back. It could be 1951. It's the style of writing that has thrown me and my mum would have been 13. She can remember it a little and was telling me her grandad died of a broken heart when his only son died in a japanese POW camp just after the war ended. My great nan then re-married.

Thanks for your help. My mum is 73 so at least her memory is still good - no sign of losing her marbles yet. lol

I have just found out that my gr grandmother re-married in 1957 following the death of my gr grandad some years previously.
I wondered if anyone could check some details for me as I am not sure of his surname.
Her name was Florence Mary Mountain (nee Whitacker). His was William Hewson (or Newson) or something similar.
They were married by special licence on 23rd June 1957 in Eastville chuch, Lincolnshire.

It is his name that I am unsure of and want to get it right before I enter on my tree.
She was 73 at the time of marriage, bless her.
