Margaret.... I think adding a births fathers name as a childs middle name was common practice.

My 4x gr grandmother was baptised Ann Vousden Clifton....her mother is named on baptism record as Ann Clifton, no father.

There were quite a lot of the Vousden family in the area of Kent where she was born, though which one was her natural father I will never know.

Perhaps she was brought up by grandparents as a daughter this could be why William Wilson is on marriage cert,

Maybe Calver/t was the bio fathers surname but because they wasnt married it couldnt be put,,,,maybe when giving birth details they asked,Fathers name and Maragret said in all innocent William ??and they may have said is he your husband ,so that why half way the name has been crossed out>??but surname has been included in the birth name.....

From Margaret My gm was Alice Calver Wilson born 23 Dec 1879, registered 1880. Her mother was Margaret or Margarite Ellen Wilson, I think the certificate says, domestic servant. The marriage cert (Dec 1905) gives her father as William Calver Wilson, profession-butler deceased. Alice was born near Scarborough, North Yorkshire but was at Low Fell in County Durham when she married

seems her mum knew who the father was but she wasnt married to him so he couldnt be named on the birth cert as he wasnt present at the registration .

Help! Paternal gm's birth certificate only shows WILLIAM crossed out as father. However, marriage cert shows full name. She had father's second & surname so is there any way to proceed from this, to find out more about him? Shs seems to have known him and possibly had contact.
