Hi

could do with some advice on how to proceed.

Reading my G Grandfather Obituary (24/2/1962) there is a list of mourners.

Daughters married surnames were: Jacobs, Macdonald, Searle, Riley & Marshall. However a Mr & Mrs A.R. Reeks are listed among the mourners as Grandson & Grandaughter.

Only thing I can think of is a female Jacobs, Searle, Riley or Marshall married a male Reek.

I've checked marriages on freebmd but found no record of a marriage. Can anyone think of another reason why the Reeks are listed as Grandson & Granddaughter, please.

Ann

Location is Guildford Surrey

it's 1962 and his name was Charles Edward Ayling (died 16/2/1962), predecessed by wife Mary Ann (nee Matthews) who died in 1957.

I have quite a lot of information about him, including press cuttings but this is the first mention I've come across of The Reeks.

It could have been a grandaughter that married a Reeks..

Think I'm going with the marriage possibility as all the daughters are at the funeral with their first husbands and surnames.

Somerset Girl I really hope it's not a 2nd marriage for one of the grandaughters as I haven't married them all off yet (he had 20 of them)

Thanks for the hints.

Writing it as Mr and Mrs. A.R suggests that they are a married couple and yet they are referred to as grandson and grandaughter.
I wonder if the newspaper report is correct..?
