How are fishermen/seamen recorded if they were at sea on the night of the census?
Thanks for your help

It varied from census to census. Have a look at the following site

My grandad is recorded on the l9ll census on a ship in Gibraltar, under "Royal Navy at Sea"

Thanks very much, I have bookmarked this site which has a lot of info for the future investigation of my fishermen family. I don't think they are Royal Navy men, just fishing boats out of Boston. Unfortunately, the 1841 census [ the one I was interested in], doesn't record men at sea. I will keep trying, and thanks again for the useful info

Hi Jean
That's a lovely record of your gt.gt grandfather. According to the site InspectorGeenPen referred me to, even men at sea were recorded EXCEPT for the 1841 census. This was the census I was checking and I hoped to get a record similar to yours, I'm disappointed, but will try other avenues.
Thanks for your reply
