Adoption of my Father and his siblings in approx.

Hi. On the 1911 census my father and his siblings surnames are recorded in their mothers name but on my fathers birth certificate he is recorded in his fathers name.We are aware that when these children were born my Grandfather and Grandmother were not married but married in 1915. I am trying to discover if my grandfather adpted the children after they were married. Please any suggestions as to how I might find this infomation. Regards Bob Wood

Adoption wasn't a legal process until the 1920's

If the husband's name was taken by the child(ren) it would have been an entirely informal arrangement.

UNLESS - the husband was actually their father, and the births were re-registered after the marriage
