NOT HOME FOR CENSUS

A question from Australia.

I have used Ancestry to scroll through the full 55 pages of census sheets for the area where I believe a branch of my family lived - 1891census,Porth, Glamorgan.

I located an address with the note that nobody was home.

My question : Are there other sources of data available to identify who lived at a certain address at a particular time - other than the census records ?

I cannot find them as visitors on other residents entries - either in Wales or nearby England counties
where they had family.

Shirley.

I don't think this is possible - the best bet is if a family lived there in censuses either side, or in the case of your own family there was a birth/death round the year of the census.
Why not put your family's details on here for others to have a look? Try to paste a census transcription if you can.

Thanks for the responses.

I dont know for sure that they lived at the particular address. It was a process of elimination, based on the knowledge that they lived near another branch of the family who show up in the same street. North Road.

Reg. District Pontypridd,Sub-reg District Llanwonno. ED district 6 , Page 12 of 55. See the note re No.66 not home.

The family in question :

John Phillips c1844,Broadwindsor,Dorset
Mary Phillips c 1833,Dorset
Samuel George Jeffery grandson,b1886, Broadwindsor,Dorset.

Cheers.

brummiejan,

Many thanks for your enthusiasm-much appreciated.

Yes,they are the correct 1881,1901 entries. Our frustation in not locating the family in 1891 is compounded by the fact that the 1891 entry would answer a family mystery - was Samuels mother [Elizabeth Jeffery b1870] still with them? She died when Samuel was "young".This census
would indicate if she was around when he turned 5.

Cheers, Shirley

Thanks Jonesey,

We cant rule out the possibility that she "started a new life"
after having the son. He was never very convincing with his comments about his mum. He may have been given the information that she died, but he had zero details.

The only observation about the entry you kindly spotted is that we have no info to suggest that Elizabeth had a middle name. You have spurred me into checking all the possible Elizabeth Jeffery marriages up to say 1895.
