Thanks for your input, as i said i did find the address i was looking for on the original 1911 census, but if someone was not aware of looking on this census, you would think the place did not exist.

It does make me wonder how many more are like this.you just could not find the record

It is barmy but the two sites use completely different search engines, even though the underlying census records are the same. A lot will depend on the manner in which the programmers implemented the indexing process as to the results that you will get, so it can be hit and miss.

I'm sure I read somewhere that FTM had mentioned this somewhere too, and others have suggested that you search first on the 1911 census site as this seems to give the best results, then using what you have found go to FTM - might not always work though.

Chris

Thanks for looking, it just seems barmy i can get 685 results on one and nothing on the other.

Still at least its not causing me a problem i just wanted to know if it was me not doing it right.
Many years ago my Wife ran a business at 143 Snienton Dale i was just curious to know who was there in 1911.

Thanks George

Hi George,

Just had a look on the other site. I agree the address 143 Sneinton Dale, Nottingham is available to view but not on FMP.

That's the trouble with two very different search engines.

Hi George,

I put Sneinton Dale in the street address and no results available.

When you put the same details in residential place 15 results come up, not numbers but street names.

I personally don't think FMP 1911 census is very good if you need to search an address. On a previous search I did only the odd numbers came up but on the other site both odd and even numbers were available.

I am not after a look up as i do subscibe to the 1911 census, it this query that i have

This query relates to Sneinton Dale Nottingham

On the original 1911 census and using the free search I can find 685 results for the road I am looking for, and can find the actual number of the road.

Now when I try to locate these same results on the Find My Past site which I subscribe too, I cannot find any results at all.
I have tried every conceivable combination of the road name etc etc.

Please could anyone with a sub to the Find my Past 1911 site have a look for me and check what result they can see.

This is the result I get from the free search

685 results found. You searched for:
Address SNEINTON DALE
County Nottinghamshire

This is one of the results from the FMP site

1911 census address search criteria used:
County: Nottinghamshire Street name: Sneinton Dale
Residential Place: Nottingham

When I copy and paste an address detail from 1911 census and put that info into FMP some of the addresses do show but not all of them.

As another example here is an address from the 1911 site, which I put into FMP which gives a result

Search criteria used:
County: Nottinghamshire Street name: Granby Villas Sneinton Dale
Residential Place: Nottingham

Results:
Your search has returned total 6 results.

It just seem so confusing

Hope my ramblings can be understood.

The address/ family I was looking for lived at 143 Sneinton Dale , I do have the family, but I had to buy some more credits on the original 1911 census.

Are the two search engines so different that you can find info on one and not the other.

Or is it just me going crackers, dont answer that LOL

George
