Can anyone help with info on tracing adoption records? I want to trace my mother's who's been dead for a number of years.

Hi Carole,

If I am understanding your post,I'm afraid that if an adoptee is deceased no information will be entered into regards their adoption, this applies to England.Scotland,Wales and NI.

The adoption information now is a closed file as its contents doesnt have any relevence to a living person.

Many thanks, Kay. Do you know if it's possible to get a copy of the birth certificate for an adopted person if I can trace the birth name?

Hi Carole yes, but,,,,if its if its less than 50 years full birth information is needed,

In reply to the above, I dont think that is actually correct.

what you need is the birth name, and the GRO Reference. You can apply for it just the same as any other birth cert.

Problem occurs when you realise you dont know the birth name, and there is no way of cross referencing birth & adopted names.

if you dont know the birth name is virually imposssible - virtually, not completely but a hard ( and expensive) slog
