Hi
Can anyone tell me if twins are born it is recorded on the birth certs. So if you have one twin's cert you know to look for the other as they are recorded as one of twins???
Family rumour my grandmother was a twin but no proof, is there a way to check?

depending on when they were born often the time of birth is recorded for a twin Plus the GRO ref will be the same page or the next one ie births were listed so many to a page so one twin might be the last entry on one page and the other twin would be the first entry on the next page.
BUT some registrars in the early days of reg. were over zealous in their work and did record time of birth as well BUT the child wasnt a twin

ok thanks
I do have a birth with same surname an area listed after my Nans so it sounds like its worth getting the certs to check. Thanks for the tip.

Another thought for your gran if the other child was stillborn then there will be no record before 1927, when the stillborn registers started.
does your nans cert have a time of birth on it though ?
Edit our replies crossed!
