On the cert is states that the deceased hanged himself during a fit of temporary insanity. This was in 1853.

The informant is the deputy coroner.

Do you think there would have been an inquest?

Thanks

Sue

Edit: Death 05 Mar, registered 31 Mar

I would say yes. I have just had 2 certs where the informant was the Coroner but did give the date of the Inquest.

looking at the gap between death and registration there probably was. A local paper may give a report, I have one but it was 1911

Thank you, I now have to try and find out which paper may have carried the report.

Sue, I have access to some papers on line, if you give me some details I'll have a look.

Otherwise contact the nearest Library to the death which is what I did.

Aaaw thanks :-))

William Knight aged 48, shoemaker. Residence Gt. Budworth, registration district Runcorn.

Deputy Coroner: John Wm Mellor (Warrington)

I hope that's enough.

Sue not having any luck I'm afraid.

I joined Lancashire Library as suggested by Jonesy on here ages ago.
here is the link to his thread:

I registered and they sent me a Library card even though I don't live in Lancs & I think lots of others have. You may find your own library has these historic newspaper searches available.

I'll do as you suggest.

You can use your own library card (I do) for searching newspapers.

And, yes, there would have been an inquest. They make fascinating reading.
