Hi, I thought I'd traced my tree correctly but now I think I've gone wrong although I cna't see how or where. Could some of you wonderfull folk help me please?

1841 Mary Coin / Coyne head widowed b 1776 Ireland
Patrick Coin son b 1811c Ireland Labourer
Peter Coin son b 1808c Ireland Miner;

1851 Peter, wife and family HO107/2025 Folio 516 Page 28 & 29

Peter Coin head b 1808 Ireland coal miner
Sarah wife b 1812 Ireland
John son b 1833 Tipton
Abraham son b 1834 Tipton
Sarah daughter b 1837 Tipton
Mary daugh b 1843 Tipton
Francis son b 1846 Wednesbury (my 2nd gt grandfather)
Catherine dau b 1848 West Brom
Louisa dau b 1850 West Brom

My problem is this; If Peter is with his mother and brother in 1841 how can he have children born from 1833?

I tried to search in 1841for their mother with the children with no luck. I wondered if she was married previously and this was her 2nd marriage, so obtained my 2xgt grandfather's birth cert and Peter is down as the father and Sarah's maiden name was Giles.

Just incase she married prior to Francis' birth I searched for a Coyne / Giles marriage with no luck.

Anyone got any ideas please? I just can't fathom it out, am I on the right track or have I gone completely mad?

Regards, Lou

Lou what makes you think the ones in 1841 are yours??

Looby Loo, the census records where someone is on a particular night of the year, not necessarily where they live. So, it could be that for some reason Peter was staying with his mother that night

Hi RudlandBelle, & LadyinRed,

Thanks for helping.

If he was just visiting his mother then why can't I find his wife and children? This is what is puzzling me. If I could find them, then I'd agree he could be visiting his mum. I've just gone through the bmd's again for the son Francis and only one matches and it's the one I got. So it must be his parents, the problem is are the earlier children of the same parents?

With the new cost of certificates I'm a bit reluctant to get another one.

1841 family must be mine as he's the only Peter I can find which matches.

It looks to me as though they got together after 1841 and had daughter mary 1843,could she be named after Peters mum?

Cant find a marriage to connect though, maybe they just lived together.
Have you found any of them in 1861 because i cant find any of them.

looking at the births there is quite a gap between Sarah 1837 and Mary 1843.

Just seen she (mother) was born Ireland so maybe she had gone back for a while with her children to visit. Pity they don't give marital status on 1841.

Hi Mary & RutlandBelle,

I can't find them either in 1861 and I've tried every permintation of the surname. In 1871 they are spelt Koyne. I do think that Mary was named after her grandmother.

I did notice the age gap between Sarah and Mary and wondered if they returned to Ireland, but then the subsequent children were all born in West Brom upto their last child Margaret born in 1852, so I suppose they could have returned for another visit when the 1861 census was taking place.

RutlandBelle what a marvel you are, I thought you'd made a mistake and was referring to Peter's wife, but Sarah was also born in Ireland, so your right she could have gone back to visit her family and that's why I can't find them in 1841. Brilliant.

Now all I need is the Irish 1841 census but I think that got destroyed, will have to check that out.

Thanks so much.

Hi Mary & LadyinRed,

I noticed that the 1871 census stated she was born in Stourbridge, but if you look on the 1851 census it states she was born in Ireland!!

I also could find them in 1881 / 91 either. I found that death for a Sarah too, although I didn't get the certificate.

They have always been a problem family. Do you think I'ts possible that they went to Ireland again and if so is it possible to search the Irish census' anywhere online?

Much appreciate all you help girls,

Regards Lou

Lou sorry can't offer any advice about Irish records. None of my lot come from there so never looked into Irish Records.

As for the death cert of Sarah, why don't you e-mail the register office in the area that she died.

I always do this if I can. On Friday for instance I e-mailed Cardiff saying I was looking for a death record and could they help. I gave name, age, approx month of death and name of husband. They replied and said they had found the right one and I paid for it over the phone £9 and they are posting it tomorrow.

Good Luck
