Thanks Sylvia. I have just been into 1901 and realised you can click on a button showing other people in the household which should help me. Bob

Robert

you sometimes find that the members of one household run over onto the next page of the census ......... the parents and one or 2 children will be at the bottom of one page, and the remaining children, servants or visitors will be at the top of the next page.

I have been told by several people that it is impossible to move from one page to another on GR ...... thus you cannot see all members of the household without doing another search for a name that could appear on that second page

On all other sites, it is possible to move freely from one page to another ..... so that you can see who else might be living in the house, possibly mother or father-in-law, which gives you another surname to follow, or to check neighbours etc

Thanks for the information Sylvia - I guess you "live and learn" in my case after changing to the gold membership. Also I am unsure what you meant about being at the bottom of the page etc. Bob

Robert

GR does not carry the censuses or other records ...... they re-direct you to other sites.

I'm guessing that either you did not click on his name to open the record OR he is at the bottom of a census page and the rest of the family is on the next page. You cannot move from one page to the next on GR.

In all honesty, none of us would really recommend taking out Gold membership on here.

GR is an excellent site at standard memebrship of ca £9.95 for 6 months ......... which allows you to put your family tree on here, and use these community boards to get help from the "helpers" ........... ie, other members who love to search and help people.

But you would do far better to put your money into a subscripton on ancestry (my personal preference) or on findmypast (preferred by others).
