Just noticed that the witnesses to the marriage were Samuel and Mary Ann Otley. It looks like that's not the first time Simon is Samuel.

That looks very possible Jonesey although she would be a bit young to be "of full age" in 1868.

I wonder if the registrar made a mistake with her father's name as I see from the marriage record image on Ancestry that Frederick's father is called Samuel. Perhaps it was a slip of the pen that he put Samuel again instead of Simeon ???

That's the first thing I thought when I noticed her husband was a Stone Sawyer on the 1871 census!!

She wouldn't have been the first person to lie to impress the in-laws.

The occupation orf Samuel on the marriage info was "Wheelwright", would that be of any help??

Hello Kath,

I thought the name was of Cornish origin and can only assume that Elizabeth came to London prior to her marriage.

The Frederick Walter Roberts born about 1870 is the son.

These are the only two I can find who appear to have a father called Samuel (although relationships are not given on the 1841 census), although I know the birthplaces do not match with what is given on the 1871 census.

Try again,

I have found the mariage of ELIZABETH PENTECOST to FREDERIC WALTER ROBERTS in Hackney, London, on 25th December 1868.

I now want to find her on census prior to that date but have had no luck, she was of full age at the time of the marriage and her father was SAMUEL PENTECOST.
