There is a 75 year closure.

The inquest would have a report in the local paper of the run down of a coroners findings but not any any of finer details,so you could try that way,

If you write to your local coroner and ask if it is possible to look at a particular inquest record 'for medical research' as you want to see if a particular disease etc is prevalent in your family history they have the power to waive the 'closure' rule. It is very much down to the coroner though.

I wrote to my local coroner and asked to see my uncles inquest for medical research and he provided me with a letter to take to my local archives to allow me to see the papers and I was allowed to photocopy them. Always worth a try.

thank you annie,
i am waiting for the local library to get back, after kindly agreeing to do a quick search,
i know that the newspaper reports, if any, will make interesting reading, and am hopeing there may be something, but i really am keen to get hold of the coroners/inquest reports as i know these will be more detailed. Have managed to obtain contact details this afternoon for the local coroner, so will give that a try on monday.
kind regards
kim
